Well its been a tad busy and this is the first weekend Ive been home for some time … just glad to be home for a change.
The Wellington 50th suprise was fantastic. Sorry if I did not get to visit anyone down there, but I was travelling with someone and Sunday was taken up with Jenny, Saida, Rose and Joy. We couldnt remember the last time we were all together … it was a blast.
I finally got a pic of me standing next to the Huntaway dog in Hunterville.
We went to a lovely Thai restaurant in Petone on Sunday night. I was impressed to see that the main street of Petone was packed out on a Sunday night.
Travelled back Monday.
Anyway, last weekend I went up to Pukekawa and spent Mothers day with Mum. I gave her a Bulldog for Mothers day. She has called him Ted. He is adorable.
In the afternoon we drove down to Ngaruawahia – had to be there by 4pm. We attended the Matariki Gourmet Hangi a benefit show for the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust. It was fantastic. I recommend this event to everyone. It will be an annual event. It was hosted by Matai Smith and he was a natrual comedian. King Tuheitia was there. The performers were just amazing: Pania Papa started it off, so we knew straight away this was going to be something special. Then I nearly fell off my chair when Moana and the tribe came on. Maisey Rika was another, Hinewehi Mohi got a standing ovaition as she organised the lot, then sings beautifully, Nesian Mystik, Whirimako Black, Boh Runga, it just went on and on. Dave Dobbyn was there too but Im not a fan of his – the others made up for him.
The hungi was fabulous – and for the first time they allowed wine and beer to be served. They brought everything to us.
It was like going back in time for me – and I was so impressed with how we were treated. It has restored some faith in me.
Having to deal with horrid verbal abuse in my job I have become quite negative towards the Maori people – however Tainui have restored my view. I probably should not say this but its my blog and I just want to say it.
Anyway, winter has arrived and the fire is now lit for the duration.
Hope all are well. I set a goal – that is: to do the New york marathon before I reach 50 … there you go Ive said it. Now to get it sorted and do it.
Wow – you’ve been busy. I read about the Matariki fundraiser during the weekend. Sounds like an amazing time.Great that you had such a good experience. It’s nice to learn that not everyone is the same when you’ve had bad experiences in the past!
Right just caught up on ya blog. Man that Matariki fudraiser sounded awesome. I read about it in the newspaper, but its nice to know of someone who went and enjoyed themselves. Had a laugh at your Cher outing lol. Thats why I always go to the toilet before I leave home and if I have to use a public toilet I always always check for toilet paper first lol. Man you made me laugh so much reading that post.
